game premise
uniques is a supernatural game set in a fictional world where there is a divide between the humans and the supernatural creatures, called paras. within the group of paras, there is a hierarchy that divides them even further and all are ruled over by a council of five mysterious paras (there is no record of what kind they are, only that they are all powerful and all knowing). the seemingly benevolent council of paras, called the timeless, rule over the day to day lives of the beings that live in the realm. all beings in astraterra originate from astraterra, there is no way to access the realm from the outside and no one knows how the different beings came to be.

every human and para is indexed and records are kept detailing their species type, lifespan, abilities and power level (see: threat level to the timeless).

 for the "safety" of humans and paras alike, of course. 

the realm, astraterra, is divided into four sections, all with a towering gate that provides access to each quadrant. the vale is the most prosperous, it is where the largest cities are located and where the timeless reside in their overwhelming palace that overlooks the capital.

each of the four gates host a different atmosphere and paras that call it home.
→ the vale is host the widest variety of paras and humans alike. more than anyone, it is where the witches, fae and humans originate from. it is a temperate atmosphere and the most mild in terms of weather and geography.

→ the mist is the darkest and coldest quadrant. it is host to the darker and more malevolent paras, such as demons, vampir, harpies, djinn, werewolves, shifters, etc.

→ the isle consists mostly of water and rivers that lead into the rest of the realm. it is home to a majority of the water paras, such as merfolk, kelpies and water based shifters. within the deep waters, there are different courts that are divided amongst the merfolk with their own personal hierarchies and royals.

→ the nether is home to the lesser paras that are deemed lower than the others in the other quadrants, such as sprites, ghosts, goblins, leprechauns, etc. humans inhabit all quadrants, though they mostly reside in all but the mist.

unsurprising, after centuries (that they're aware of) of being considered less than the paras, the humans have secretly started to build a resistance to the timeless and to give more equality and standing to the humans that are constantly made victim to the nature of the malevolent paras.

meet the timeless 
a group of paras that lord their all-knowing power over the beings of the realm. they reside in a palace overlooking the capital city, polis, and control everything within the realm. many, especially the humans, suspect that the timeless are spying on them, in the privacy of their homes, and use that information to control humans and paras alike.

meet the resistance 
midnight rising is a group of humans and human sympathizers (paras) who are tired of being treated like lower class citizens in the world they share. humans often claim that they are abused and treated horribly by paras. while this isn’t completely untrue, humans are also guilty of targeting paras who may not be involved or are innocent of such crimes. the resistance is a radical group that target paras as a way to win back some of the power in astraterra. they also seek to lift the veil that is over the paras eyes of how they view and are manipulated by the timeless. while the war between humans and paras has lasted centuries, midnight rising is a newer group that is only about 40 years old.
